Yemi Alade has come a very long way since stepping into the limelight with her breakout single “Johnny” in 2014, now hailed as the Queen of Afrobeats, she has been nominated for a number of awards and even won the MAMA Best Female Artist Award two consecutive years in a row, 2015 & 2016.
The super star was recently featured by the Fader in an article titled “How Yemi Alade Hustled Her Way to Become the Queen of Afrobeats“, about how she made it to the top of the music industry as perhaps the number one female Afrobeats artist in Africa.
The article is a testament to Yemi Alade’s stardom, as she recounts several of her experiences as a growing artist, making strides in the industry, continuing to garner international acclaim as she joins the growing list of Nigerian artists to be featured by the Fader.
Check out this hilarious video for her food themed song “Tumbum”, which was also featured on the Fader, off her 2016 Album “Mama Africa”.
The song is another successful Yemi Alade and Selebobo collaboration, clearly having a great time playing the role of a village girl chef, and according to her she “even did a little sumo wrestling” in the video to get her man back as she put it. Enjoy.
