In the 70s and 80s, thread was a popular Nigerian hairstyle used by women to stretch out their hair and help it grown. By the 90s, the trend started to fizzle out and became something you would only see on school students who used it as a protective hairstyle. However, these days, thread seems to be creeping back as a trend with celebrities like Chidinma and celebrity stylist, Jane Michael rocking thread. Vintage photos of thread are always a treat to see like the iconic hairstyle series by J.D Ojiekere. However, the modern day versions of thread are interesting to say the least but we are not sure we are totally sold on this trend. It looks good in pictures but would you rock it as an every day look? The jury is out on this one.
