Fishermen in coastal cities across Nigeria have always been a fascination of mine. The fact that they still use wooden boats with small fishing nets to make a living is incredible. I wonder if they realize their source of livelihood is under threat. Under threat from big trawlers further ashore, robbing them of tomorrow’s living.
Over the years, I have visited many fishing settlements. Seeing how people from different ethnic nationalities and countries can live together in peace in a place so far from home is also quite fascinating. I am very aware they this way of life may be non-existent in a few decades and hope such memories can be preseved for eternity.
Here are a few photos I’ve taken from various fishing settlements across Nigeria.
