The Lagos art scene is growing everyday. It seems each week, there is a new pop up, auction, exhibition or something artsy for the enthusiasts to feast on. This February seems particularly busy for the art lovers so we have curated a list of the events we are looking forward to the most.
If you’re one of those people that constantly miss events like this – a good trick is joining the galleries mailing list and getting your invitation straight to your email. But if you haven’t done that – you know we’ll always be here to give you the 411.

Bits of Borno
This is a photography exhibition organized by the Borno State Government. The works being showcased are by photo journalist; Fati Abubakar and the aim is to change the negative narrative and headlines of people in Borno State.
Being that Borno state is being painted as a war zone by the media, we’re quite interested to have a closer look at the state, the people and what’s really going on.
If this sounds like your kind of thing – the exhibition opens on February 9, 2017 by 6pm at Omenka Gallery.
2. Art Night Out & Affordable Art Auction
So, basically if you like art and you like booze – then you need to be at this event tomorrow. It’s being held at the KIA showroom (same location as last year) and it should be a great night out. You basically get to look at really dope art work by a mix of really great artists and then you can bid for them on Saturday. The idea is to promote affordable art for young people, so don’t get scared. Even if you don’t buy any art – you get to meet some really great people so it’ll be a win win.
When: Art night out; Feb 9 (tomorrow) Affordable auction; Feb 11
Featured image credit: Dennis Osadebe. He’ll be showcasing new works tomorrow and we’re definitely looking forward to it.
3. Her Story
Okay, so we don’t have exact details about this exhibition- but the little teasers Rele have been dropping on the gram has caught our attention. For now, we know all the artists involved are women and there will be a special feature by renowned artist, Ngozi Schommers. Girl power and art? Count us in.
Date: 26th of February at Rele Gallery
4. Permutations
This is an ongoing exhibition at the Wheatbaker hotel. It doesn’t matter if you missed the opening because the works will be up until the 4th of March. The artists’ name is Tayo Olayode and the exhibtion features over 38 mixed media art works. This is Olayode’s first solo exhibition in Nigeria and his works are hauntingly familiar like he knows your inner secrets.
A great thing about the Wheatbaker space is it’s quiet enough for you to walk around and take in the art but its also a bit of a maze so you find yourself almost looking for what’s next. This one is definitely one worth checking out.
