Four words we cherish at the Ndani LS HQ; Thank. God. It’s. Friday. It’s the end to another work week and the beginning to everyone’s favourite days – Saturday and Sunday.
Although we are pro staying in bed and watching Netflix Ndani all weekend long, we are also here for going out and getting the most of what the vibrant city of Lagos has to offer. It’s very easy to become overwhelmed and spoilt for choice when it comes to what events to attend, so here is a curated list of events we would definitely go to if we could split ourselves into 10 different people and attend every single one.
Tonight
1. 90’s Baby Sound off @ The Underground
The Underground is like the cool kids’ best kept secret. Like the name suggests, it’s underground and is always a good night out. Tonight, 90’s baby has an incredible line up of artists and the night kicks off with an open mic. The poster has all the deets.
2. Fresh Friday @ BarBar
This is one of those easy sells. You want to go with your boyfriend? ‘Hey babe, 1k haircuts at BarBar’. Want to go with your friends? ‘Yo guys, 1k margaritas!’. See? Easy. If you’ve never gone to Bar Bar, the music is always bomb so you’ll probably find yourself at some point dancing on a table. Yes, 1k margaritas will do that to you.
Saturday
3. AAF Super Sale & Pop up Market
African Artists Foundation is having an art sale this weekend. You don’t usually hear the words sale and art in the same sentence so we are definitely excited about this one. If you have been looking for art for your home but haven’t quite been able to afford any pieces you’ve seen at exhibitions – this one’s for you. There will also be a pop up market featuring some of the finest Made in Nigeria brands so there will be a little something for everyone.
4. Indelibl & Art Bridge Project panel discussion
Whether you are an artist, an art enthusiast, a critic or a lover – this is a perfect way to spend your Saturday afternoon. The topic that will be discussed is ‘What’s next for Nigerian art’ and the line up of panelists let us know it will be an intellectual and thought provoking session.
5. The Building Better Brands Workshop
So, in a perfect world – weekends are for shopping and partying. But the truth is, there is nothing better than a productive weekend that could potentially enhance your business. You can shop or party any time. But how many times do you get to listen to industry professionals brought specifically to teach you how to build your brand? Yeah, do it. You know deep down it’s the right move.
6. Paint + Sip @ La Taverna Lekki
Painting is fun. So is drinking. You add the two together and you have the makings of a really, really good night. It’s also a little different from the usual – so if you would like to switch things up, then this is for you. La Taverna Lekki is a colourful Tex Mex restaurant and it kind of makes you want to wear a sombrero and do a little cha-cha. Here’s an idea, you can paint yourself wearing a sombrero while you sip on a margarita. Yes.
Sunday
7. Raya shopping party
Raya is a girls best friend. This Nigerian brand has taken jewellery to a whole new level with exquisite semi precious stones that make any outfit pop. To celebrate the launch of their brand new website and their latest collection, Raya will be having their first ever shopping party. What makes a shopping party? First of all, it’s in a bar. Second of all, there will be free drinks and lots and lots of awesome jewellery. Yep, Sunday plans – sorted.
8. Food shack Brunch out
Food shack is one of those places that will forever be in our foodie hearts. If you’ve had their wings, you can testify in any court of law that they know how to throws it down. It’s outdoors, there will be great music and good drinks – so pretend you’re in New York and have a really, really long boozy brunch because life is hard and Sunday’s were made easy.
9. Mai Saii Spa Launch
Every woman needs to visit a Northern traditional spa once or hundred times in her lifetime. This new beauty spa has age long beauty secrets that promise to keep you looking fresh and beautiful. We all know that black doesn’t crack but these Northern women have some age defying secrets that we need to be a part of. Sundays were made for spa days so don’t think too hard about this one.
10. Open by Titilope
And perhaps we saved the best for last. Titilope is an amazing poet and performer and this Sunday will conclude her 3 part series titled ‘Open’. If you have listened to Titlope speak, you will understand how special this event is. This finale event has a different twist as the dress code is all white and promises to be a vulnerable and honest experience which is rare in Lagos. So, like the event invite says, come open.
